Digital Product Passport (DPP)
The consistent recording of product data throughout the entire life cycle is crucial for the smooth operation of machines and systems – especially with regard to maintenance, servicing and service calls. Find out how SIMPL is implementing the Digital Product Passport (DPP) in practice – funded by the state of North Rhine-Westphalia and the European Union.
Why the digital product passport is so important
As soon as companies want to exchange data with each other, this is often still done via email, Excel spreadsheets or phone calls. The result: long response times and completely non-transparent processes. It is often impossible to trace which components have been installed in machines, for example – or who is actually the right contact person
-
Companies often lack the necessary transparency across company boundaries
-
Information on components, spare parts or disposal instructions is not available – or is difficult to access
-
Data on CO₂ footprint or energy consumption also remains in the dark
The advantages of a digital product passport
The use of a digital product passport makes it easier for companies along the entire value chain to exchange relevant data – such as the current operating status of a machine, upcoming repair requirements or the complete machine history. Damage can thus be rectified more quickly and in a more targeted manner. And, incidentally, CO₂ is also saved – a welcome side effect in times of increasing sustainability requirements.
-
Increasing the operational efficiency of machines and assets
-
Optimisationof service and maintenance processes thanks to better data availability
-
Reduced energy and resource consumption thanks to targeted maintenance and recycling
